After School Program

How to Keep Your Kids Entertained and Engaged Afterschool

After a very different and sometimes difficult school year, things are starting to go back to normal for students. After over a year of remote or hybrid learning many schools are returning to full-time, in-person learning in the fall.

With that brings back a whole new set of questions and concerns, one of which is what to do with your children after school.

Now, if you don’t want your children to just be home after school is over we have some suggestions on ways to keep them active and engaged after the bell rings.

School Sponsored Afterschool Activities

The simplest way to entertain your kids after school lets out is with school-sponsored activities. If your child isn’t already involved in something at their school, consider looking into what they have to offer.

Sports and clubs are great ways to keep your kids busy after school and for high schoolers, they also look good on college applications.

Additionally, most schools will run a “late bus” for students who take the bus and want to stay for after school activities.

Town or Community Sponsored Activities

Similar to schools the town or a local community group will sometimes also run activities that your child can take part in.

Community sports are a popular activity as well as scout groups. They are local and will usually work around school schedules.

Local groups like churches, synagogues, and community centers will also oftentimes run classes, lessons or after school groups. Some of them may even run buses or vans from the schools.

Community and Neighborhood Groups

If you don’t want to send your child to a structured class or lesson, consider talking to some of your neighbors and others in your community and setting up an after school study or hang-out group.

You can all pick one house to go to or alternate every week. These kinds of groups can give parents more flexibility with after school care and give kids an opportunity to be social with their peers in a more relaxed setting.

After School Classes

If you’re looking for something more specific for your child then you might want to look into local organizations that do after school classes.

Places like dance studios, specialized schools, and similar places often hold after school classes.

If you’re interested in after school classes that specifically pertain to media, art, and technology, Metro Media Institute is running our After School Program starting in the fall.

Our After School Program gives students time, in the beginning, to get homework and schoolwork done and spend that second half in classes Coding, Graphic Design, Video Editing, Art, and more.
